..........destroked an engine.

Someone brought up the idea of destroking a 400 block with a 350 crank to create a high reving reliable engine. Has anyone ever tried this? It sounds like a cool way to create a high reving 383.

I think it actually works out to 377cu.in. They did a comparo a while back in CarCraft between a 377 and a 383, both high$ rebuilds, and they came in pretty close accross the board. 383 had a bit more torque, 377 had a bit more HP and wound a little higher. I'll post the issue date if I can find it.

CHP magazine did a test between a 377 and 383 the 383 won at the drag strip and made more torque. Only advatage to 377 is you get to buy expensive valve train parts to take the high rev's so if you want to spend more to go slower the 377 is the way to go. Remember what Smokey Yunick said NO SUBSTITUTE FOR CUBIC INCHES The only reason to consider a 377 would be if you run in a class that restricted the cid of your engine but on the street torque is king. :seeya
