Anyone heard anything good or bad about the new Dragonslayer Crankshafts by Callies. I've been told by the factory rep. that they are made out all the same material as their more expensive cranks, but not all the machining for reducing weight is completed.
I haven't seen one yet but we use a lot of Callies cranks in our motors. I think they are building them out of 4340 non-twist forgings just like their others but they do not offer the following: Gun-drilled mains, cross-drilled rod journals, radiused fillets, and lightened counterweights. These are all standard features on their "Stealth" or "Racemaster" cranks and are worthy additions if you're building a motor that will rpm... I will tell you that my Callies rep told us he is getting his butt kicked by Eagle, Scat, CAT, and some others on low-cost forged cranks. That is the main reason they've come out with this line...They'll be able to offer a "CALLIES" crank to the sportsman racer or street guy that doesn't have much money and would switch to one of the "lesser" manufacturers for a forging... You wouldn't believe the amount of racers that get satisfaction out of being able to say they're running a Callies crank!! It's a status symbol for many...Hell...I've got one in my motor, whether I need it or not!!

PS- To answer you question somewhat: Callies builds TOP NOTCH cranks and rods (not many people know they build rods, too); in my opinion the best out there...A Sonny Bryant billet crank notwithstanding. You'll be hardpressed to get a better crank.
Another positive (at least for me) concerning the Callies Dragonslayer crankshafts is that they are supposed to be forged and machined in the
U. S. A. The SCAT, Eagle, etc. cranks are forged overseas (China) and machined in the US.

China quality  I believe Lunati also produces their 4340 cranks here in the US
