I'm finally putting my car together and was wondering if you have any experience with scatter shields or bellhousing "blankets" for a ZF, and which driveshaft loops you have used. I recall some of you mentioning pieces from Exotic Muscle and Summit, but was wondering which were the best, and which required the least work. Thanks for the tips.
Re: scattershield/driveshaft safety loop for 6 speed (crznL98)
I have the Exotic muscle blanket on my bellhousing (yes, I know that does not meet NHRA requirements), and it was a living pain to get installed because there is absolutely NO room to work with. Initially I had also gotten a safety loop from Exotic, it really fell short of my expectations, so I had Bill Bodreau of ZR51 performance build a custom one for me. I really hope to never "need" either item, I've never seen a Corvette explode its clutch, but I'm old enough to have been at the drags when clutches did explode with some regularity (really just about one of the scarrier mechanical failures I've ever witnessed was a flywheel exiting a car as it launched off the line).

Green Rocket,
What did Bill fab up for you? I remember you mentioning it a while ago. I've heard of other members adapting universal kits, and was thinking about doing this, but are there many advantages to the loop Bill made? I really want to get my car together, but after seeing a bunch of posts on the SPEC flywheels being machined wrong and reading a whole bunch of crazy products liability cases in school, I'm going to do everything I can since I drive it (haha - I should say used to - Superior finished the engine last August!) really hard. The 12" wide autox wheels and tires I plan to add will also probably be pretty hard on the driveline. Have you run at Carlsbad lately?
Re: scattershield/driveshaft safety loop for 6 speed (crznL98)
What Bill made looks similar to the others out there (but fit much better): a two piece "D" shaped 2" wide steel strap that encloses the drivshaft and fits around the C beam ~ 4 inches back from the trans output. As far as i know I was the first customer that he made one of these for, I'll bet he kept the engineering specs and could build another. Did I warn you it will be a pain to install? (yeah I know i did I just want to emphasize what lies ahead for you).
Oh yeah, Carlsbad. It has been probably four years since I ran my Vette there (that entrance road was just too much). I have had my ugly ('ol brown and lumpy) old El Camino there on several occaisions. Will we see you at the next West Coast Corvette Challange at Fontana at the end of June?
Re: scattershield/driveshaft safety loop for 6 speed (crznL98)
Hopefully my car will be running by the end of June, but I've been swamped with law school and a law clerk position. I'm trying to juggle my 'vette and my girlfriend. I do know one thing however, my CRX seems to get slower and slower and slower. I'll aim to get my car together for the June event, though. Talk to you soon.
