On my cam card it says
VALVE SETTING: INTAKE .022 EXHAUST .022 ----> HOT
Does this mean I should put a .022 feeler guage in and tighten to that point with the engine hot? Or should I just do normally? This is in the 69 427.
Normally! That may depend upon what you mean by, "normally". Make the adjustment with the lifter on the heel of the cam lobe. Insert the appropriate feeler guage between the valve stem and rocker arm. If the feeler is loose between the two, tighten the adjustment until you feel a drag while moving the guage between them. If you can't get the guage between the two, open the adjustment until you can. Then, tighten as described above. Repeat, 15 more times. Good luck.
to get started cold do this. set the engine on TDC #1 set EX 1-3-4-8, IN 1-2-5-7, set the engine on TDC #6 set EX 2-5-6-7, IN 3-4-6-8. set the at IN at .022 and the EX at .024 cold. after getting the car running and cam broken in you can then recheck the clearance. :chevy
10- Changing the valve lash is a good way to get an indication of which way to go for your next cam change. You won’t hurt anything by going too tight but too loose will let the valves slam shut, causing damage to valves and seats. .004 to .006 loose is usually OK.
