i have been looking at an old post about tuning holleys and trying to tune mine lately, but i am going no where. Well here is the problem at the moment: I am trying to adjust my float level, so i took out the sight plug, loosened the screw and nut on the top of the bowl to bring the float level up, so that it starts to drip out of the sight plug on the side of the bowl. Then it STARTS SPRAYING on me, presureised fuel is comming out between the treads and bolt on top of the bowl (the screw and nut that adjust float level). Not only does the fuel keep coming out of the top while i try to adjust it, but the float level won't seem to go up either, i think i went down. Now the car is very slugish and carb is worse than when i started. Does anyone have some good tips or know of a good holley site. Oh yeah i replaced the sight plugs with clear ones today, so if i do get it to work how hight should the fuel be when I look at the clear plugs? Holley :smash:
u are either to high on float or u have something in needle & seat. The reason it is spraying u sounds like u tore one of the top two gaskets on adjusting screw or nut! I adjust front float so it will trickle out when I lean on pass fender and rear one I have it barely trickle out. Just my 2 cents
You need to barely loosen the top slotted screw make an adjustment and then lightly re-tighten the slotted screw and WAIT 20 seconds or so for the fuel level to stabilize...of course this is done while the engine is running. Like the above reply states...you want your fuel level at the bottom of the sight plug.
P.S. Once you finally get your float level set don't forget to firmly tighten your slotted screw.
Does anyone know of a good site or book that can give me some more info on adjusting holley's. And just a side note, my car feels a little slower than before the engine was rebuilt. I put a little bigger cam in it and a air gap RPM, why would it be slower, i has 800 miles since the rebuild :chevy
Just go to http://www.holley.com and look for technical imformation on carbs.
As far as losing power with a cam change, well what happens with bigger cams is that you move the power range up in RPM curve and loose bottom end torque that you had with a smaller cam. Thats why the cam companys always recommend you stay conservative on cam selections. This is just a general statement and you would have to provide complete imfo on your engine setup, trans and rear gears to see if they could support your cam selection. Probably best to open another post with old cam and engine specs and upgraded engine specs and ask opinions

Whats the low down on your engine carb, cam setup. Ther are lots of reasons the car would be much slower. As for tuning a Holley, the tuning will only be as good as your setup. Out of the box most are close but jetted a little on the rich side. The accel pump is usually not spot on and depending on the cam the power valve maynot be low enough.
Need more info.
