In all the mags that I read it seams like everybody likes the Vortec heads. but I see, and have been told, that the Bowtie heads casting # 034 are a good performance choice. For Cast Iron heads which is better on a 350?
From what I gather...if you want to port an existing head the Bowtie or other similar head is better, but if you just want a head to install as is then the Vortecs are the choice...if money is an issue at all then the Vortecs win hands down for sure.
Vortecs don't seem to take to porting...at least normal techniques.
The Vortecs have a unique intake manifold bolt pattern.
Some guys simply elongate the manifold bolt holes, but I don't know if port alignment is correct just doing this. There are special intake manifolds now on the market that are designed to match the Vortecs. Scoggin-Dickey sells one, and maybe other companies too.
Also, Vortec's stock springs can't take much valve lift, so be sure to check into this if you opt to go with them.
