I went and looked at a 350 that was for sale out with a B & M 420 MegaBlower. He told me that he built it similar to one in the B & M book that produced 640hp (Ithink that's pretty optimistic) on pump gas. I'll tell you the combo, I would like to know about how much HP it could be making.
Two 750 Edelbrock carbs :U
B & M 420 Megablower (set for 10lbs of boost)
Dart 215cc heads (2.05/1.60)
JE pistons 8.0 to 1 comp.
Eagle H-beams
Forged crank
The block and heads are O-ringed. I don't know what cam is in it, but I know it's a blower hydraulic flat-tappet. I would be using 1 3/4 headers and full MSD ignition. How much HP do you think it could be making with the perfect Hydraulic flat-tappet cam. And how much Hp could it make if I switched it to a solid roller? Also, how much boost can these things make on race gas?
Thanks for all the help,
Jay
Re: Supercharged 350 HP questions (TeenagerWith74Vette)
Sounds like a nice engine and the 640 horse is reasonable. The part I like is he went to the trouble of O ringing the block and heads. The cam doesn't make that much difference. Blower motors don't need rpm and you can short shift . The solid cam just extends the rpm. From the sounds of it looks like a nice motor.
460, 8-71, twin 850 double pumpers, roller, Tremec, 4.11
He works at a machine shop, so I'm sure he got the motor and heads O-ringed for free. I'm going to go talk to him some more. I'm supposed to have somebody buying my heads off my motor, that will allow me to be able to buy this motor.
He's asking $5,000, but I think he would take a little less. This seems like a very good prive for a motor with less than 200 miles.
Re: Supercharged 350 HP questions (TeenagerWith74Vette)
I have a good article on supercharging the 350 from both weind and holley. I know they are owned by the same people but in this article holley didn't even get into the 420 on the small block and they were over 600 HP with pump gas. The 420 is alot bigger then what they were using. This motor will have torque. I converted my nitrous bigblock over to a 8-71 and spent about $9000 CDN just to convert a already strong fresh motor.
Go for it.
