Can anyone recommend a source for a high quality 383 stroker kit. I'm hoping for a forged crank. This would most likely be super charged by Carroll. Any input appreciated.
Do you want to go with an import kit or American built? Depends on personal preference. Pretty good prices on Eagle kits at http://www.partscavengers.com, free shipping. http://www.competitionproducts.com has low cost all the way to very high dollar American made kits. Scat makes good kits, Lunait, Crowler, Hank the Crank (very expensive, but one of the best), Callies, Cola, Trick Flow, Competion Products carries quite a few different brands.
I actually got my kit from speedomotive. The base forging kit from them was @ $1500. Then when you go with upgrades I ended up with something like $2500. It's very easy to get $8-10K in a non blower motor.
Speedomotive has a very interesting 396 SB short block for just over $3k. I know they get a bad rap from some people, but even if you take it all apart to check things yourself that's not a bad price for the parts, block, and basic machining. http://www.speedomotive.com/550hp_sb...er_engine_.htm
Doug Herbert offers quality parts at good prices. You can get a free catalog at 1-800-444-7373 . Their cheapest 383 stroker kit is $779.95 & then goes up from there as quality goes up ;) . They offer cranks from Scat, Cola, Lunati, Callies & Eagle.
We built a 383 using speedomotive's 383 kit. ( http://www.speedomotive.com )
Impressed with the quality considering the $$. Installed it in my roommates '86 Z51 copue had it's holding up fine, has about 10,000 miles on it and it's at the track at least one weekend a month.
there is also someplace in Bakersfield that's supposed to be the sh** when it comes to strokers. I don't recall the name. I thought I saw their add in back of National Dragster.

I have been told to stay away from anything that is non american. Various engine builders have said that the quality of the steel is not as good in the foreign parts..
I am planning a 600+ hp engine as we speak and the peace of mind that comes with all top quality parts out weighs the increase in price for me..
