Is there some general number for advancing ignition timing per 1000 ft. of altitude? My mecahanic said me it is something like 1 degree per 1000 ft., but I have not heard this from anyone before. Has anyone else heard of this?

Your mech gave you the ruff rule. Modern chamber designs like yours would be more like 4 degrees in boulder. You can also go up a full point of compression at 5000 feet.
