Default Best HP estimate?

Since I wasn't aware of this section till today, some of you in the C4 section might have seen this already. I'm going to redo it once.

Okay, this is what my engine rebuild is shaping up to look like. Anyone want to venture a guess? Anyone have the same setup?
Shortblock
383 Rotating Assembly Eagle/JE-SRP
Crankshaft Eagle 4340 Forged (3.75")
Rods Eagle 6.00" H-beam (4340)
Pistons JE/SRP Flat Top (-7cc valve relief)(anyone estimate compression?)
Rings C&A Plasma Moly
Bearings Clevite H
Straight Main Caps Callies
Oil Pump Moroso
Main Studs ARP
Head Bolts ARP
Timing Chain Cloyes Double roller
Water Pump Meziere Electric
Distributer upgrade '95 Vented Opti
Opti Spark Vent Kit
'95 Opti wiring harness
Timing Cover '95-96
Machine. Balance, Blueprint
Comp 3-angle valve job
guides seals
Fuel Injectors SVO 30 lb/hr
Throttle Body, Stock modified to 52mm
Exhaust Converters carsound, 2
Custom Exhaust work Muffler Eliminators
Valvetrain 1.6 pro magnum RR
pushrods
Lifters Comp Pro Magnum
Springs, retainers, locks
Camshaft LT-4 Hot Cam
Computer Custom Programing
Gaskets ARP

Add 160° T-Stat

I think I got everything in there. Basically replacing all stock parts except the valves. After this is paid for, I'll probably go with a stage 2 heads and a custom cam. Probably add headers also.

Also, if you see something I missed that's needed, let me know.

Can't even begin to guess without heads and cam. It is a goo strong base for a motor that should be able to take 6000 rpm redlines. The 383 is a torque motor, so build it for about 10.5:1 (with aluminum heads - or maybe higher if you want), some good heads, and a roller cam. You could get a good 450-475 lb-ft out of it.

Some good heads, a roller cam like the Comp 282HR, headers, etc. could get about 475HP/475TQ. I'm not sure about complression, but since you have more stroke, I expect you might need a larger combustion chamber than you had before.

????? Heads and cam are listed. Stock heads, 3 angle valve job, and a LT-4 Hot Cam.

Also, the compression should come out to 10.8.

Using SWAG I estimate 425 hp @5500 rpm and 425 tq @4000.

I'm thinking of something similar with AFR 195 cc LT4 comp heads ported and LT4 CNC ported intake with 58mm TB, hooker 1 3/4 longtube headers, custom cam, electric waterpump, High capacity fuel pump, and an 11:1 compression ratio. I'm also swaying back and forth between 383 and 396. Any guesses with these changes? Would those injectors be big enough? What would be the weak link?

I don't see where you listed the injectors. I would think you would at least need some SVO 30lb/hr or the equivalant. You will also need some custom programming.

with the small hot cam. Its more likely 380rwhp 430rwq. I run my 383ci with custom ground Extreme Energy 222/230 @.05 .560/600 LSA 114 for my blower motor. Its idle means. If I were to do the NA motor I would run to 12:1 c/r. They are many people run 12:1 no problems.

The Hot cam in a 396 with heads would put you at 390-400RWHP. Without the headers and heads you will be down from that. I would say 370-375HP.
I still have the stock 24# injectors in my 396. Everytime I get ready to go to the 30#'s, I talk to someone that says you will not gain anything and could lose HP with the bigger injectors. MTI stands by the stock injectors. They feel more pressure with smaller injectors is better than less pressure with bigger injectors from a HP standpoint. This assumes your trying to get to around 400HP at the wheels. Did put in a Walbro 255 though.

Sorry, with the long list of parts, I missed the cam and heads. Dyno2000 (which is usually optimistic) gives this combo 450 LB-FT of torque and 410 HP. I used an LT1 head flow file that I found online, so the similation is only as good as that file.

RPM ...... HP ...... TQ
2000 .... 144 .... 378
2500 .... 191 .... 400
3000 .... 241 .... 422
3500 .... 299 .... 448
4000 .... 344 .... 451
4500 .... 381 .... 445
5000 .... 406 .... 426
5500 .... 410 .... 391
6000 .... 394 .... 344

This also uses small tube headers with mufflers. Go to manifolds and the numbers drop:
RPM ...... HP ...... TQ
2000 .... 130 .... 340
2500 .... 175 .... 367
3000 .... 230 .... 402
3500 .... 282 .... 423
4000 .... 318 .... 418
4500 .... 348 .... 405
5000 .... 366 .... 384
5500 .... 368 .... 352
6000 .... 354 .... 309

Just noticed that the Cam file for the HOT LT4 cam is not a roller. I assume this is an error. Making the cam a roller makes a huge difference. Anyone have a valid HOT cam file I could use?

I'd geuss 400hp. That is really mild combo for a 383 but it will make lots of low rpm torque, it probly won't be able to spin very high.

I don't really plan on spinning beyond 6k since it's a stroker. Not right now any way. As far as the exhaust, it'll have stock manifolds, high flow cats and NO MUFFLERS! (except the stock resonater) :D If I see 405 at the flywheel I'll be really happy. Anymore is just gravy at this point. Any less and I'll still be happy she's running again. Just looking for more power later. :)

I meant a setup like you have with the injectors, water pump, etc plus the extras I had listed. I want over 45 rwhp and torque when done and want to know what I need to do to get there and stay emmissions legal, naturally aspirated, daily drivable, and reliable.

I think the 30lb/hr injectors will be fine. Over 45 rwhp? :jester How much do you have now? :jester (hoping you meant more like 450? I think with what you posted you'll be higher than me, but since I'm not sure what I'll be making (reason I posted) it would be a REAL stretch to guess on yours. I'm not sure you'd reach 450rwhp (if that's what you meant) without some serious modifying of the heads though.

Yeah, 450. Typing to fast. What else would you suggest to pop it up there? The heads are going to have custom port/polish.
Thanks

Since I just found out today that my clutch and flywheel are fried beyond reuse, might I suggest you consider that when you plan your mods. I had thought I might need a new clutch but was caught off guard about the flywheel. Trying to do my homework on that now. I can tell you the GM flywheel is OUTRAGEOUSLY priced! :mad

They are putting the stage III clutch in this week. They will be using the stock flywheel if it is good. Should be with 75000 miles on it. If not, I am going to an aluminum single mass. Much cheaper than stock and can handle the power.

You'll need something like some AFR 210s for 450rwhp. I think at the point the stock heads even fully ported would be holding you back, plus you'd probably have more in them than the cost of the 210s.
