Default Blower motor

Hi all,
Somewhere while on vacation recently I got the damned fool idea to build a blower motor with a big 8-71 blower on top. I don't even have a car to put it in because it's no going on the vette. Maybe a 'velle. Anywayz, I want a big block chevy capible of runing and pump gas (93 octane around these parts) and wasting rice burner like there's no tomorrow. Thats about the only requirement. Has anyone built a motor like that? This is just in the planing stages but I really wanna build it. I would like the advice of those who have come before me. As usual any and all comments are welcomed :chevy :chevy :chevy :chevy :chevy :chevy :chevy :chevy :chevy :chevy :chevy :chevy :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash:

I have a motor like you are talking about but going to that expense and size just to go out a waste rice burners is a little stupid.
460, 8-71, Tremec TKO, 4.11s, 2 850 double pumpers

With all that expensive hardware sticking out of the hood, don't expect ant Ricers to come near you! You might want to think about building a "sleeper" that doesn't look so MEAN. Like a 540" w/solid cam and 1 carb. Then you might get some action. I don't know much about BBs, but you can make 650-700 hp w/o nox. Just getting that to hook up will be a project. Put that in a 70s Monte Carlo and you will be cruising and bruising ricers. IMHO.

Wasting ricer won't be the sole use for the motor but it's nice to know it's there if the need arises. I think I'll get a fair amount of action, (ricers dont' know much about American Iron, I could tell'em I like the way it looks and it's detuned for the street Hehe) I think what it comes down to is just that I've always wanted one. I think i'd be looking to spend between 12,000 and $17,000. Norm, I was wondering if you could hit the highlights of your motor and the power it produces? Will it run on pump gas?

Thanks much

Its a sad day when this much motor is needed to do battle with ricers. Who knows, you may get a number of races on the premise that you will be sitting there spinning your tires, while their "weak" ricer is already underway.

Ever drive anything like this before - trust me when I tell you that keeping it straight will be challenging. Unlike the dragstrip, most streets have a crown, and with this kind of power you will find that it wants to drift the rear end toward the curbside.

That said I want to see the completed results! Enjoy the power, show onlookers what a power burnout is all about!

Dart big M Block
4.56 bore - 4.25 stroke
Aluminum heads
Custom solid roller cam - 700+ lift
T&D rocker arms
15% over driven BDS 1071 Blower - BDS Birdcatcher EFI
MSD crank trigger
HP – 1,025 at 6,300 rpm on pump gas.
Jim Oddy built the motor.
It was a lot more then $ 17,000

I don't think I need 1,000Hp, EFI, or a 10-71 blower :smash: (although they would be nice)
I'm thinking between 800 or 900hp, 2 holleys and an 8-71 blower (which outta bring the cost down) What is your car going to be used for and how much did that motor cost (If your not comfortable with saying thats fine)

Also, Is there any manual overdrive transmission that'll handle 900HP?

Thanks to all for you input.

i have built several blower motors,510 cu in,420 magna blower that make over 750 HP on pump gas. these are boat motors so they are detuned because of the application. in street trim i am sure you could pump out 100 more HP by changing the pulleys :chevy
