Any Chassis Dyno Operators out there? Statistics...
I have had my own DynoJet 248 chassis dyno for about 8 months now and am wondering about other individuals/businesses from this forum that have one(or more). I have a few questions that I hope you might answer:
1) How many runs do you have on the dyno? (Approximate)
2) What is the most horsepower and torque you have recorded?
3) Have you had any problems with the hardware or the software?
4) Are you on the Windows version or on the DOS version?
5) Do you ever use the negative horsepower feature?
6) What kind of fan/fresh air system do you use?
Finally, the big question that I have is whether you report hp and torque in the SAE format or the Uncorrected format?
I have been using the SAE format because that is what the software defaulted to but I wondering if everyone else is using the Uncorrected format.
I have run 4 different car/engine combinations so far for a total of about 160 runs.
I have made 66 runs on my 542" Big Block so far and the best numbers I have are 690.1hp and 622.7tq. These are SAE corrected. If I use the Uncorrected numbers, they jump up to 700.0hp and 631.7tq. All of these numbers are with a complete Spintech 3-1/2" exhaust system out the back and an air cleaner in place. In other words, just the way I drive it on the street.
I know that some people might say what difference does it make as to whether or not you use SAE or Uncorrected because all you are trying to do is see what effect the changes you made have. I just want to make sure that I am on the same page as everyone else and not quoting numbers that are BS. To me, Uncorrected means just exactly what the engine made at that moment in time based on the conditions - favorable or not. When I decide to go out and race my car, the ET and MPH will be based on the conditions at that moment - not some calculation.
I am really interested in some feedback. By the way, I can't wait to see what my numbers jump up to when I add Nitrous to the car. I built the engine with Nitrous in mind so all I need is a system and some time.

Do you have any pictures? Dam 690HP at the wheels on motor thats wild. Could you give some details on your motor? I think most people use the industry standard for dyno corrections (SAE).

I believe almost every operator uses the default correction. Otherwise you can't make valid comparisons from day to day as you make changes.
Correction factors aren't perfect, and they become more suspect the farther they are from unity, but they beat trying to evaluate small changes with uncorrected data.

oops..forgot to answer your question....i have about 150 runs on my dyno...the highest rwhp is 389,the highest torque was 545 lb-ft...still using dos..no negative hp here....and i use a really big fan blowin on the car and another really big fan to exhaust the room and just in case thats not enough i have a semi-big fan to cover anything left. a really strong engine puts out a tremendous amount of heat(as you are aware). people have no idea how much 300 rwhp feels like! :) this weekend i expect to break all my records..i'll let ya know :D

and yes i have had hardware and software problems..none that werent solveable. the biggest problem i have is customers that blame me for their shortcomings...there has not been one person yet that we couldnt find some power somewhere. just last night i took an 87 grand national from 208 rwhp to 248 rwhp just from adjusting the fuel pressure and the boost..he didnt spend a dime, the power was already there.

Coming right up. By the way, since I am new to this forum, is there any limit to how many pictures you can post or how much screen real estate they take up?
