Default Head Seat Concentricity

I've never done much with rebuilding of heads, but was freshening up a set of SBC cast irons. I started to lap them lightly just to see the valve to seat and within the first couple I knew they were not right. I stopped after about the first two cylinders. (This was actually a few months ago and have left them sit since. Back at it now)

I want to know if this is mild/average wear that can be remedied by a basic grinding of the seats at the shop, or if they are too far gone needing extensive work which would not be worth it.

..not the most clear in the pictures but some seats are wide, some thin, and not concentric.

Trying to diagnose these types of problems w/o being there to inspect the heads is problematic. Judging by the burnt oil buildup on the one exhaust valve, I suspect that you may need new guides too. Typically, but not in all cases, the valves themselves need to be reground or replaced.

I'd take the heads down to your local machine shop and let them tell you what work you need and how much it will cost. It may be easier just to buy another set of heads such as these than rebuild what you have.

Good luck!
