Default PCV Question. (fast response please :)

I am told this is a smog related thing, and I could block off the intake/TB ports and run non PCV breathers on my valve covers.

Smog is not a concern of mine. And I have a non PCV breather (no little port off of it) already, and would rather not replace it ($). Also another thing that will help clean my enigne compartment up and make it look how I want it to (I love the way our 65 engine bay looks, motor, alt, ps, no junk...)

Thanks for helping me out
Matt

You might or might not get away with it from an engine health perspective. Depends on how much blowby you have. Blowby gases contain water, which isn't good for your oiling system. The PCV is designed to circulate some air through the crankcase and pull the moisture out. These gases can also be explosive. The straight breather caps can also be a source of oil belching out onto the valve covers.

PCV has no affect on performance. It may be a smog piece, but it doesn't hurt performance at all, and may improve the longevity of your engine. I'd leave it alone. It really is a smog piece only in the sense that it replaced the old road draft tubes, which pulled blowby gases out and vented them to atmosphere. On a healthy motor there is little enough blowby that sucking it into the intake to be burned makes no difference to performance.

I did a LOT of research before doing mine, but I replaced my valve covers 2 months ago when I modified my intake setup. I am running a breather on the passenger side, but have retained all the PCV system on the drivers' side. The passenger side emissions system doesn't really do much, but the drivers side you should keep. As posted before, it helps reduce blowby.
Car's been running fine once I got all the vacuum stuff correct.. :)

You dont by chance have a diagram of the vacuum stuff do you? This is one thing that is giving me a headache and I havent even started on anything vacuum yet.

I know the BB goes into the back of the plenum. The switch thing with the rubber end for two lines (bolted to the waterneck) is EGR and I got rid of, but I dont know where those went. I dont know where the two in the back/side of the plenum go. Where the Fuel Pressure Reg line goes... and no idea wha tother lines there are other then those 4 (BB, FPS, 2-plenum).

If u cant help I will be posting a new topic :p:

Also, water diagram? The whole heater setup is gone, I cant remember what the lines from the oil cooler do, I think one goes to the water pump (one of the Y-Pipe ends right?), the other i dont know. There is also a line off the back of the intake manifold that I think is coolant and cant remember. I am also wanting to bypass the TB and dont know if I can just block off something or what needs to be done

Anyways, I will be getting a new valve cover insert (non valved PCV compatible). So that it will work right..

Thanks for the help, hope you can help with my others questions as well :D
