10088113...88-up...350..........Aluminum, 58cc, angle plug, raised
"D" port exhaust, 1.94"/1.5" valves
I Have a set and was thinking about putting them my 1980 L48 are they worth the work :smash:
Yes, I think they would be a great improvement for your L48. Those are the stock heads on 88-91 TPI Corvettes. They'll flow well enough to support about 350 horsepower without any porting. And the aluminum will save you several pounds over the iron heads.
Of course the small chambers will raise your compression. I'm no expert, but I THINK the '80 L-48 has flat top pistons and 76cc heads, for something around 8:1. With the 58cc chambers you should end up at about 9.5:1 or better. If you've got a stock cam you could top them off with some 1.6 roller rockers and you'd enjoy a pretty substantial power boost, IMO. And since you've already got them........
:) Yes, they would be good for your L48. Just remember that you must use premium fuel only after the upgrade, whereas yourstock L48 will run fine on regular. The '80 Vette was a real low point in performance - the upshot is that almost anything you do will give great results.
Thanks guys glad to here that. Can you help pick me out a cam I also have a Edelbrock Performer intake and plan on using the dynomax headers and will run the Qjet .The cam will have to work with the stock converter it stalls at 1800/2000 and I have 3.08 gears. So guess I want some thing with alot of low end :chevy
I'm not qualified to make a cam recommendation, but I've heard that CompCams' customer service people are really good to work with. If you give them a call and tell them what you've got and what you want to accomplish, they'd point you in the right direction.
I had a '74 L-48 with the factory heads, Performer intake, headers and a Holley carb. I should have asked for cam recommendations, but I didn't and ended up with a Comp 268H. It was a bit much for my combination and I think I would have been better off stepping down about a notch or two.
There are so many considerations when picking a cam-- converter stall speed, gearing, airflow capability of the heads and intake setup, valve springs, need for a good strong vacuum signal for Q-jets and headlight doors, etc. It's better to be conservative on the cam choice rather than err the other way.
I rate them as a poor flowing head
195 on the intake @ .500 lift
159 on the exhaust @ .500 lift
Depending on how much they are going to set you back, there are other options for around 600 bucks
Somewhere in this section past 30 days ago I have posted some other GM head flows, might compare those 113's to the others, 882 smog heads out flow them if I remember correctly, but don't hold me to it until the post is searched
Hi mountainmotor you helped me out a while back I was looking for a good drag boat site and you turned me on to Hot Boat forum I got a old sanger flat bottom and found some W motor Hardware to put a old 409 in it and got side tracked with the vette thing.
I allready have 113 heads so theres no cost just looking to pep the L48 up alittle I am shooting for some low end grunt for now intake headers stock converter 3.08 rear
It would be worth it has you already have the head. For the cam, you could go with the xe262 of comp cam. It is recommended with the stock converter. Many on the forum have this one and like it.
BTW nice time with the stock L48. It sure runs straight to go that (fast).
Hey Walt, I did not recognize the user name. Now you have the heads= no problem, email me for a cam suggestion to get the gain you are looking for, that selection will make or break what your after. Also have other boat links can forward to you.
