Default 383 using a 4.00 bore block

if you have a one piece rear seal 4.00 bore block you can have 383 by using GM part #s,crank 12489436,rods 12497870 set of 8 and pistons 12489437 set of 8 :chevy

Sorry clem, but I don't know OEM part #'s, but I suspect that the Crank is an OE GM 350 stroke (3.48") which will not make a 383. The one piece-seal Block is not a problem, quite a few Co. now sell Nodular Iron and cast Steel 1-piece seal Crankshafts for 350's that have the 3.75" stroke necessary to make a 383 stroker Engine. Although the 4.00” Bore must be enlarged by 0.030”, because a Chevy stroker 383 is 3.75” stroke X 4.030” bore!

Unless you have a carefully planed out parts/machining plan for a 383, I’d recommend researching places that will assemble a 383 Long Block for your specific application. There are millions of little subtleties in collecting the right parts & then assembling them the right way. When purchasing an Engine or parts from a reputable shop, you have the peace of mind, of knowing you have experience guiding your decisions. I would recommend Scoggin Dickey (SDPC2000.com)

Chevy stroker 383 is 3.75” stroke X 4.030” bore!
Usually, but I've got a half breed! 4.185 bore X 3.48 stroke! I have hard block in the block, so the .060 overbore is ok! :D The guy I'm building this for, is putting it into a 1932 chevy coupe with 4spd, and 4.56 gears! This should be a high 9 low 10 second car when done!

the crank is a 3.800 stroke forged 4340 steel made for GMs new 4.00 bore 383 so you do not have to search for old cracked 400 blocks. all you need is a one piece rear seal 350 block. .030 over would be 387 ci :chevy

Um, I think Clem did his research here at the GM site:
https://www.spoperformanceparts.com/

12498332 - Engine Parital 383ci
12497317 - HT 383

GMPartsDirect was showing the short block w/ forged crank for about $3K.

Holly crap, what the hell was I smoking- Sorry:bb! Upon re-reading your post clem, I now realize you were posting a fact and not a question:bb! I just checked out that Crank at spoperformanceparts.com, very cool! I don’t know what these are retailing for, but if less than $500, it’s a great deal for us 1-piece seal owners wanting a 383!!! As a mater of fact, with that Crank & a good Block that has minimum core shift, you wouldn’t even want/have to deck the Block!

Hell, I wish these were available back when I bought my Scat crank:mad!
Once again sorry, my ignorance – not yours, I thought the post was a “what if” type:bb?

BTW, I not a big fan of PM:U(Powdered Metal) Rods, I’ve heard quite of few stories of them disintegrating in Marine app. Engines.
