Need some spark plug help....here's my setup:
350, Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum heads, Comp Cams 292H, 750 Holley w/Edelbrock Performer intake, headers, etc. When I bought the car, it had a set of AC plugs, FR3LS. When I went to buy new plugs, the shop didn't have that plug, so they gave me a Motorcraft AGSP32C. Both of these plugs have given me problems with fouling. Not oil fouling, but carbon fouling - just black and sooty looking. I would like to try a hotter heat range, but not sure what to try. Are any of you guys running a similar setup? Any suggestions?
I used the fr3ls's with good results. The fr5ls is hotter, but may be hard to find. Try the autolite 3926, next colder is 3924, then 3923. NGK FR5 is also a good start.
Thanks, I bought a set of the FR5LS Friday on the way home from work, then promptly managed to break TWO of them off trying to install them! Still haven't figured out how I managed to do that, as many times as I've had the plugs out of this thing, I've never had that happen. Guess I was just hurrying and didn't get the socket seated good on the plug before I started tightening. Anyway, you're right - I had to try about 7 or 8 different places on Saturday before I finally found 2 more of the plugs. They are hard to find!! Anyway, we'll see how the 5's do. I suspect they're really just a band-aid - I think what I really need to do is tune the carb and lean it out a little.
