Re: Which heads? 74cc or 68cc AFR190's (69stingray)
69Stingray,
Thanks, The prices are good, but, the stroker setup is not balanced. I am not having a shop build the engine so I definately want the setup balanced. :yesnod:
85 vette if you are going with a kit form from any of the shops like advertised i would skip the ballance from them they do not do a qualty ballance ive even seen bill mitchel kits from summit say they are ballenced yes they are ballenced but down to about 4 grams thats not good enough i would buy what ever kit then take it to that station auto parts and they will ballence it down to within a 1/2 a gram if you have any questions email me
just to let you know, i have 68cc 195 AFR i talked with the tech dept at AFR prior to buyin the heads and asked them will the 195 heads work with my engine setup and the gearing that i had, one rep said i should go with the 190's i called a few days later to get another opinon from someone else there, just to be sure i was making the right purchase, the next rep said i could go with the 195's although they would like just a tad bit more duration, but i'l inform you guys i wanted to be talked into the 195's because i thought i may loose alittle torque now, but i know, i'll want to make changs to produce much more power later and have the heads to meet those requirements, but to the point, i opened it up briefly (only 850 miles on motor) i punched at about 20-25mph it chirped ( i have 275's on the rear) and about 40ft later the tires broke loose, and started squealing. and slid sideways, i then got off the gas, i have done this twice and it is cool. it reminds me of those buick gran nationals, when the turbo kicks in.. but i still wish i got the 190 heads, (probaly be more torque than i really want thouht) i seldom hear anyone with the 195's so dont shy away fom them bcause most people have or suggest them..
Re: Which heads? 74cc or 68cc AFR190's (CORKVETTE1)
Corkvette,
Again, I have to say thanks. I think I will be starting to tear the engine down till November. I was told by Iskay racing that there is a shortage of retro-rolloer lifters and do not expect normal distribution until January. So I know the engine will not be done until 2002 once I start.
I may ask your opinion on some crank kit potential, and I appreciate your note about balancing.
Does the machine shop put in the crank and pistons when they balance them? This is completely new to me
Hey, I saw a post by Ski_down about your helping him build a monstor engine (a twin to yours). If you work on it on a weekend, it would be assome to have an opportunity to check it out. I would even bring some refreshments.
Madvette74, your description of the power potential was  . It reminds me when I had a 66GTO w/ 4barrel. When you kicked it down, the tranny would go into a neutral state and lay tire taking off
Sounds like my kind of power.
I forgot to mention - The 195 combination is used quite often. I checked out a few forums working with 350's and it seems to be a great combination.
