I'm trying to pre-oil my engine, but only 3 rockers are getting oil, all on the driver side. I rotated the crank about 1/2 turn, and same three rockers. All rockers are adjusted 1/2 turn past zero lash. I had my drill pegged for over a minute and still, only 3 rockers. :mad :mad Could somebody please offer some advice?

My suggestion, as long as you have oil pressure drown everything in oil (rockers, springs, lifters) slap on your valve covers and go for it!!

I never get any oil up to the rockers when pre-oiling also. Thats why I slap some assembly lube on the rollers and pushrod tips. :) When you pull the drill attachment out is the end that goes onto the oilpump shaft covered in oil? If so you're good to go. :D
Re: ***HELP!*** Can't get engine pre-oiled... (dtorc4)
Oh yeah, plenty of oil on the shaft of the drill. If I look down, I can see the oil flowing out of something into the crankcase. I have already globbed assembly lube on the pushrod ends (lifter and rocker ends) and the sides where the pushrods might contact the guideplates. So everything should be go to go, huh?
Look everything over 4 more times and if you can have somebody else who knows the engine somewhat look over it 2 times for you. :) Good to be sure. Oh and now is a good time to go look at your parts piles and see if there are any spares. :D

The reason why is because you need the body of the distributor to seal of the oil passage(where you see oil coming from) so the oil will have enough volume/pressure to flow throughout the rest of the engine! If you have an old dist lying around, just knock the pin out if the gear and remove it, next remover the mechanical advance mechanism to leave just a shaft stub on top. If you want, tack a flat washer on both ends or just the top end of the shaft to keep it from falling out of the dist. body while handling. Now slip it down into the block just like you are droping in the dist, hold the body and turn with drill. It takes a 1/2" chuck to fit over the dist. shaft. Try this, and you should get more oil to the rest of the lifters. Oh yeah, you could just rent or buy a priming tool, but this one is cheap and you can say you built it yourself! :D
I had to run the thing for awhile to get oil out of all the rockers. I was told it wont harm anything to run the pump for a few minutes, I ran it 4 times (first two I found the leaks where the parts I had left over went (DOH!)) third time I run it for a bit and got some oil, decided I wanted more proof it was working good, and ran it for like 2-3 minutes untill all the rockers got oil.
I was told that if it was a fresh motor I wouldnt have needed to do it so long, and that the assembly lube and a quick spin of the pump is good enough, but my motor sat for ~2 years so I wanted to be safe...
Goodluck! And as a note, you can rent the primers for free at most shops, put a deposit down and get it back when you return it (which reminds me I gotta take mine back!)
