Default Holley DP / Proform leaking problems

Guys,

I read some of the reviews of the proform carb body, and they were all pretty favorable , so I went and bought one for my 650 DP holley.
Pretty easy swop out, but I seem to have basically ruined a good carb.
When the car sits I can smell gas, I look down the carb and all the throttle blades are wet...nothing is dripping from above, the float bowls are set correctly....I also noticed that the gasket between the body and the throttle plate is wet...as is the gasket between the carb and intake.
Any ideas? I am thinking that the body is not flat..or the throttle plate has now warped....just really annoying...
Any ideas/suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

cheers
nick

The base plate normally will not leak fuel unless fuel is leaking through the boosters onto the throttle blades, and then it will seep through the gaskets. Does it run ok? I'm thinking that maybe the fuel is overcoming the needle and seat and is flooding into the engine when running, when you shut it down, it will smell bad and the throttle blades will be wet but the boosters might not be driping anymore. How much fuel pressure do you have? Also, double check the gaskets between the metering blocks and main body to ensure they are sealing, make sure your power valve is good(bad diaphram can leak into vacuum channels and into throttle plate), and definiately check the main body and metering blocks for flatness.

When I first started the car, it was dripping out of the boosters, so I lowered the needle and seat, to the point were they did't drip anymore.
Could the gas be wicking from the wet gasket back to the blades now?
I have a stock fuel pump, pressure by the carb is 9psi. Everything appears to be tight....
I am going to strip it down, replace the throttle plate gasket and try again.

thanx

I think I may have a solution..or at least a reason for it, as I said before, when I first started the car the float bowl level was too high, so I had fuel coming through the boosters.
I have a feeling the level is still a little too high, maybe not enuff to come through the boosters, but enuff to feed the idle circuit...its only a tiny amount but its noticeable.
I think I need to lower the float bowls a little more...does this sound realistic?

Yes. When you adjust the floats, pull the site plug out of the side of the bowl, and you should have fuel just below the bottom of the hole for the plug. This is a great starting/running point.

Pressure from a stock pump should only be 5-6 PSI. Anything above 6.5-7 lbs. can cause the fuel pressure to overcome the stock needle and seats.
