Filter and filter bypass revisited
I've got an issue to point out to show I learned (maybe to show myself as well) from the previous thread. To help present the issue, I'll use this link for reference: http://www.acdelco.com/html/pi_filt_oil_gold_flow.htm
This Delco site says this, quote: The graph above shows that Ultraguard Gold filters nearly four gallons per minute of cold oil at a differential pressure of 10 PSID (typical bypass valve opening pressure).
This is telling me that at a flow of 4 gpm, this filter is filtering with a pressure differential of 10 psi, is it not?
Having a pressure differential of 10 psi, this filter, while flowing at 4 gpm, will cause the pressure bypass in the filter adapter to fully open as well, while doing so, correct? Why would GM be so forward about that fact? That doesn't sound like a very good flowing filter to me. What good is the ability to filter down to 8 microns, if it is blowing the bypass open?
I'm still plugging in this winter on my LT4...just like I did on my Nova-both street driven...:)
Good Info!
