Best rotating assembly for supercharged small block
I'm looking to make around 550hp/tq from a small block package using a roots type blower, ie Weiand or similar. 4 bolt mains, probably AFR heads, dual 650 or 750 carbs, not sure about cam choice yet but that's a whole other question! 7.5-8:1 static compression, run the blower for about 8-9psi boost.
I was wondering what crank/rod/piston package you guys would reccommend for around $2000?
I quite like revvy engines so I was thinking of staying with a 350, but I was wondering if the torque characteristics of the blower might be a good match for a 383 package? Could I rev a 383 up to about 7000rpm OK?
I've seen a lot of all-forged packages out there at around this price range, but I don't know the good from the bad from the downright ugly :) Which brands/makes have a good reputation for reliability etc?
Re: Best rotating assembly for supercharged small block (aww999)
Revving will kill and engine faster then the supercharger. I use to run my nitrous bigblock regularly to 7500 but once I switched to a 8-71 blower there seems no need to rev the pi?? out of it. Low rpm torque goes up so much. Go with 8-1 compression. I run 12 psi boost with 8-1 compression on 94 octane fuel. The cam should be on 112-114 lope centers.
If possible 4 bolts, steel crank if you want to rev and the best rods you can afford.
