Re: Anyone using a Proline Silicon Fluid Damper (81vette)
I have a SFI 6 1/4 FD. Anything that does it's job and can't break is better than stock.
I think that it was Monty that years ago posted some kind of a vibration test report. It led him to buy the ATI, I think. I concluded that the 8 inchers are more effective. But I was looking at smaller rotational weight.
I also bought the $25 summit adjustable pointer (pin type) and set a true "ZERO" mark at the time of checking the cam degree with a piston stop.
Re: Anyone using a Proline Silicon Fluid Damper (gkull)
gkull,
I was reading about setting the true TDC on your damper last night. I guess that means once you've identified true TDC you'd need to put completely new timing marks on the damper using tape? How far off was yours, and what did you do about all the other marks?
Re: Anyone using a Proline Silicon Fluid Damper (81vette)
NO no no! Fluid dampers have a very nice black finish with timing degree marks all the way around. That's why you buy from Summit Racing a TAVIA adjustable pointer. It's good for plus or minus 4 degrees. My present crank was right on. But I like the pointer right next to the 6 1/4 damper.
My next motor will have the smaller aluminum. They last a life time so why not buy the best
