Default conecting rods

Im starting the project of rebuilding the 454 and would like to make the motor into a 496. Very easy from what I understand, but doing some research the purchase of a 4.25 in stroke crankshaft is not a problem, but what are the advantages between a 6.135" rod and a 6.385" in rod. Also are there any disadvantges to a stroked 454 motor.
specs so far on the rest of the motor is
.060 overbore
gm o-port aluminum heads
edelbrock rpm airgap
camshaft is a 248 at .050 and .595in of valve lift
compression will end up being somewhere close to 10.5:1

Thanks for any help JOSH

Engine builders rule of thumb is to run the longest rod possible. It results in a longer dwell of the piston at the ends of the stroke which is believed to result in more horsepower. Also less cylinder wall side forces between the piston and wall with the longer rods. Just look at the rod length of the new generation small blocks to the old ones. Rods are much longer and the ratio of rod length to stroke is larger.
Don't know of any disadvantages of a stroker motor. Stroking instead of boring to get cubic inches usually results in an engine with a larger improvement in torque compared to HP but torque is what gets the car moving. Not that you are lacking torque now. Remember. longer stroke engines can accept much larger cams than same cubic inch engines with shorter strokes without experiencing the ill effects of big cams.
