Default Fuel line construction

I am setting up the fuel system for a '67 Lotus and upgrading (from original) as many components as possible Rather than using standard nylon Napa fuel hose and hose clamps, I would like to use the nicer braided lines but without the AN fittings. Here is an example of the method a Lotus specialist in England used for the connection.

Look at the photo. Is this simply a braided hose slipped over the nipple and secured with a heavy duty shrink wrap? Would the shrink wrap need to have an adhesive lining?

The shrink wrap is just for a clean termination of the braided hose and gives the hose clamp something to grab on to. The shrink wrap doesn't secure the line.

I prefer adhesive lined shrink wrap regardless of what I'm using it for.

Why don't you want to use AN lines?

The fuel pump has pressed on hose nipples so they cannot be replaced with a threaded fitting.

Couple ways to skin a cat.
1. Use the shrink tubing and -6 SS lines. But use fuel injection fuel line hose clamps. You can get them in black or silver colors. I think they look much better than the hardware store hose clamps.
2. You could use "push lock" FI -6 line. It typically comes in black and its outer covering is fabric braided.

The shrink wrap is to contain the stray ss barbs and wires. Looks good. Wrap it and shrink it and then cut the tubing with a cut off wheel.

SS braided for a push lock line is a lot of work. It doesn't cut easy and will probably be a PITA to push into place. They sell SS braided sleeves that you could use with a proper pushlock line if you just want the look. Might be more cost effective too. Whatever route you go, do what others said and shrink the ends. The frayed ends dont look great and will ***** your fingers every chance they get.

Saw this and thought I would add couple details,

Fuel clamped braided hose is track legal,

There exists finishing ends, purely cosmetic, here is my example daily driver fuel supply, $84 in-tank fuel pump 2,000 run hours @ 600rwhp gasoline

There is actually quite a large selection of quality hose clamps, the primary concern when doing this way is the quality of the hose clamp
Here is an example of some selection from Breeze, I usually use breeze

There are all kinds of special clamps that might be good for this. I use the highest quality stainless clamps possible. I've wanted to try these liner style I think it would work well on the frayed ends so they dont stick through and draw blood.

I talk people out of AN fittings when possible

They have their place but if you are not familiar with their use and manufacturing specifications its easy to make a big mistake, a car life span mistake
Clamped braided offers many advantages over AN fittings and supplies more fuel than most realize is possible with such a cheap in-tank quiet submersible pumping system upwards of 800bhp is easily achieved for very low cost
