Hello everyone🖐 I just joined this forum to gain some info on old corvettes, never owned one, but it might change soon. So yesterday I came across this 1960 c1 in red/white combo that customer of mine had for many years... Body definetly needs to be repainted, interior is in pretty decent shape besides some wear on door panels, frame is solid, trans is original and rebuilt... My biggest question is engine, he has was swaped it to 350 v8 chevy engine. Does it bring the value of the car down because its not fully original, or collectors mostly focus on general condition of the car on these things? Looking at market prices of these cars feels like I can get a great deal, but want to get opinions from others before pulling the trigger. Thanks.
I had a 350 in mine. Was a good engine. When it failed I put in a period correct 327. But having a 350 wouldn't hold me back a minute. It won't change the fun value. The engine is the easiest to fix. Bring a trailer has plenty of 350 engined C1's good place to check comparable values.
But if you want investments look at the s&p 500. Vettes are for fun. And it should have a 283. You will like the 350 better. You should post over in the C1 forum. Lots of "know it alls" over there. HaHa.
I would fix what's broken and learn to live with your new love interest. Accept a few bumps and scars. Makes them more enjoyable because you and the car seem more approachable.

Thanks John for your reply. I ended up buying the car and can say I love it! Its super fun to drive, like an old school go cart, that 350 definetly has plenty of power. Just like you said I will fix the small things it's missing and will continue to enjoy it! The only bigger modification it needs is brake upgrade, original drum brakes suck😄
Good to hear it. I would have run a 350 forever if I didn't have a HG failure. Then I put in a 327 to give it the period correct look. I see you have an HEI and a alternator. I did front discs also. As far as I care those are the best driveability changes that matter. I did power R&P but that was from having a crap steering box and too many puckering moments of questionable control. You just have to get used to having the car rolling before you try and steer. We have lost this in the last 40 years of driving
.
And these cars. Being fortunate enough to be their caretakers is the definition of GOOD LIVIN! Share with others. Not having a perfect car to OCD on is an advantage. Means you can be carefree about minor things that come with old car life. When the kids see it make sure they get some pictures sitting in the seats they will remember it forever.
