If running Alcohol, how much compression is needed?
SO how much is in the range of alcohol? Is it between 12-14? What if you are running a Supercharger or a Turbo? Then how much could you run on an alcohol Engine? Would 12.5 to 1 compression using 18psi boost be too much? I'm just interested in alcohol and how much of a gain it has over pumpgas and other race gas's :yesnod:

A properly set up carb running alcohol will gain you about 7% more HP over a gas version of the same engine. I would not run alcohol unless its for an all-out race car for the following reasons: 1. It takes almost twice as much alcohol to travel the same distance so its not viable for for a daily driver. 2. Alcohol is very corrosive. You need compatible components in your carb, fuel pump, fuel lines, etc. 3. Alcohol absorbs water...you need to be careful how and where you store it. 4. You'll need to change your oil much more often and should be using synthetic oils with alcohol as they are more compatible
For a race car running alcohol AND a blower you need to purchase additional safety equipment. NHRA will require a supercharger restraint system when running alcohol and you'll need to upgrade to a 3.2A/15 firesuit if running a blower/turbo/nitrous and run faster than 9.99 seconds. A gas car running faster than 9.99 will NOT require the more expensive fire suit and driving shoes.

Yeah just a race car. Also you couldnt run Alcohol on fuel injection? So alcohol Turbo is out of the question? Then what else could you run, Race Gas? What different types of race gas are there and how much of a difference in compression could you run on each type? Thanks for the reply :yesnod:
