How important is this? My GM parts manager says that the GM oil pan has sufficient baffles built in....is this true? I know the stock motor comes with one...
If you built the engine from parts, I guess the question should be: What oil pan do you have? The best OEM pan is the 63-65 SHP/FI pan and it was also used on some later SHP engines - five quart capacity and well baffled with a trap door to keep oil from sloshing forward under heavy braking.
This was THE pan used by SCCA racers before dry sumps were legal. It is identifiable externally because the deep part of the sump extends about 3/4 the length of the pan versus about 1/2 for the various 4 quart pans.
