I was thinking of hopping up a L82.I wanted to run a nice beefy hydraulic roller cam and a different pistons to raise compression to around 10:1 or 10.5:1.What do you guys think?Am I moving along the correct lines?

As I recall, the L82 comes with very nice forged pistons, crank, and good rods. As I said earlier, the easiest way to raise the compression to the numbers you stated is by putting 2.02" 64 cc heads on. A hydraulic roller with some decent numbers would complete the package making an L82 into something that would humble a very potent 370hp LT1.
I believe that the HP small block heads used from 1971 to 1979 were 2.02's but 76cc chambers not 64cc. I would bet a double cheese burger on this, but not a full steak dinner.
I am pretty sure Chuck is right. I think the cc of the heads made up the compression ratio difference. Also, you never did say what exhaust you had. There is a BIG difference between an early true dual exhaust car and a later single exhaust car.
Thanks Chuck. Can I mill these heads down or should I just look for some different heads.I plan to put this motor in a 91 S10.Longtube headers and dual exhaust.

The L82 came with 2.02/1.60 heads that had 76cc chambers. Like said before it was basicly a lower compression verison of the L46 (35/350) engine. It is a great engine. The 73/74 L82 was 250 hp which was never exceded by later classic chevy small blocks. Took the GenII LT1 to pass them in power.
A good tune, distrib recurve and carb tune, will do wonders for the L82. 73/74 L82 came with true duals at 2 1/2" so the addition of headers along with the tune would be good.
