Ok, I'm looking into buying a 70's 350 block with 4-bolt mains for my upcoming project. Basically, my question is will it work in my car?? Will all the part from my current engine swap into this block?? I have an '86 corvette with an L-98 engine, non roller 2 piece rear main. Oh yeah the casting number for the block I'm looking at is "3970010". Thanks
Re: Are all 350 small blocks created equal??? (NUckINg FuTS)
About the only difference between that older block and your 86 is that
the dipstick is on the driver's side on the earlier blocks and on the passenger
side on your later 2-piece rear seal block. I put an early left hand dipstick
block in my 85 and since I've got long tube headers it's not a problem.
You'll need an oil pan for left dipstick also.

Thanks for the replies!
Danno85,
Would I be able to buy an oil pan that will fit this block and also retain a right side dipstick????
The problem is going to be that the early block you're looking at doesn't have
the "pad" on the oil pan rail on the right side pan rail for the dipstick. If it did, you could drill the hole for the dipstick on the right (it just goes through the pan
rail maybe a half inch), plug the dipstick hole on the left, and use a right hand
dipstick oil pan.

I believe Miloden makes a pan that has the protrusion for the drivers side dip stick. but then has it's own protrusion on the passenger side on the pan it's self for a dip stick. So in short. It solves that problem, if is was even a problem to begin with. Dimensionally almost all the blocks are going to be the same on the outside. The only other thing to look at is if it has provisions for both style starters, "staggered and straight style". I have a 4 bolt block 350 bored 40 over just sitting in my garage collecting dust. Also have a crank and rods :).. need it out of there!!
