I'm considering an American Speed 427 small block but haven't been able to locate anyone who's dealt with them. I'm interested in quality of work, engine reliability, customer service experience, and overall reputation of American speed.
Re: Has anyone bought an American Speed engine? (75 Hot One)
I have not purchased an engine from American Speed, but I did do a little bit of homework on them. They have a good reputation and have been around for some time. I even visited their shop when I was back seeing the in-laws. I would not hesitate to order a motor from them. One nice feature is they dyno test all of their higher horsepower motors. AFR, the head manufacturer, has several American Speed motors as testimonials to their heads performance. They are posted on the AFR website.

amerspeed.com - looking at those engines myself- also "Chevy High Performance"(October 03) -this month- has a pretty nice guide to lots of mail-order engines.

I haven't bought one but I plan to before the end of this year. Everything I've heard and read has been positive. Cost is more than some but I think it'll be money well spent.

I have been researching "big" small blocks and ran across this company: http://www.shafiroff.com/
I have no personal experience with Shafiroff, but they have a 595HP 434 CI small block that looks interesting.
Re: Has anyone bought an American Speed engine? (cbernhardt)
Scott Shafiroff had a series of winning "Fastest Street Car Shootout" engines in several cars in the last few years. Other than the 'prss' though, I have no personal experience with him or his engines.

Thanks for your help. I've looked at "the engine shop". That's Bill Mitchell & World Products. They use only World Products heads and only hydraulic flat tappet camshafts in street engines which, I think, limits the engines, although they're still pretty impressive- $8900 for a 427CI with Al heads & 530 hp.
