I hate Comp Cams! :mad They advertise and promise things that they don't even sell.
But other than that custom cams is a misnomer unless you want to pay $1200-1500 for the tooling to actually make a cam to your specs.
When it comes right down to it with all the companies they have pages of lobe profiles. Each lobe has a ramp speed or type, total lift, and duration at .050 or some other spec.
So custom cam really means finding the manufacturer that has the speed, lift, and duration to fit your needs for each lobe. Crane cams actually produces the blanks for many of the other manufacturers.
The blanks have such large lobes that they can be ground to lobe sepparation of 104- 118 degrees. So you can name your LSA.
First of all what are you trying to do. I only use sollid roller cams because they don't have the rpm limitation that H-Rollers do. Most people are better off with H-rollers.
I only buy billet steel cams and with the sleeved gear you can use your common distributer gear.
If you told me the specs you need or what your expecting I could advise you better. I called about 5 manufacturers to get my last cam. Very few make extreme ramp profiles in relatively low durations. Extreme ramps get the most power, but at the cost of short life for the valve train.
Go to the Crane web page and they have a nice selection of off the shelf roller cams. Off the shelf are $150 - $200 less than "custom" grinds
The plan is for a roller. I have to use the stock intake exc. on a 90 L-98. It just runs out of air. I am going to flow the intake parts this week so we have a better idea of what to do.

They provide great customer service, and I am very pleased with the custom grind camshaft they spec'd in for my 427.

Re: cam grinding company? (gkull)
Don't see any flat-hyd. cams in the short duration range of 265-275 with tight lobe separtion angles of 104-107. What I'm asking is will Crane or Isky grind one for relatively few bucks? gkull have you seen this done at close to off the shelf price?

Wow, it's good to know he's surfaced somewhere- Lunati/Holley made a very good move picking him up! I'll be watching for changes in their cam line now.
I'll second what redvetracr says
