OK Guys Need to learn more about timing. Got two big blocks one in a boat other in a vette. Vette runs hot always has, 62 radiator just wasnt made for this many cubic inches. But I recently installed a PCV valve and it appears to have made my cooling problem worse. I dont have vac advance is this little bit of air making the engine run that much more lean?
Boat:
Fixed timing at 34 degrees what do you all think bout dat?
The only guess I can make about the PCV, is that if it was running lean, this would make it leaner and possibly run hotter.
Here is MY take on the advance. The boat is always under a greater load than the car is normally. Since the load is constant, not the same amout of load, but the amount of time, the need for an advance curve is lessened. In the car, cruising is a light load. Except in time of real exuberance, the car doesn't see half the load the boat does. Regardless of the "main" purpose the engine was built for, I would never omit vacuum advance from a street driven car. Not only will part throttle economy benefit from it, it should tend to run cooler. Good luck, and...
