Default looking for advice on 454 engine

I'm looking to buy a 454 engine for my next vette project. I have two to pick from:
454 complete, needs rebuilt, $450

454, new generation, 4 bolt main, long block. $300

I'm calling on both engines tomorrow and am leaning towards the 454 4 bolt main engine. What is the differance between the two? old Gen vs New gen.

Which one would you go with? Both are priced right.

I dunno. Both sound good. I'd lean towards the 4-bolt. Unless one's already been overbored. In which case I'd avoid the overbored engine, even if it had the 4-bolt mains. Try to find out more details of each engine.

2 issues to consider:

1. does the new engine have a fuel pump boss or is elec fuel pump requ'd? (advantage-old block)

2. does the new block make it easier (i.e. cheaper) to use a roller cam ? (advantage, new block).

As stated above, assuming both are STD bore. Otherwise, I'd get the one not bored.
