Default Confused...simple questions....feel smart

Ok, I am buying piece by piece for my buildup.
I am basically going to try and make something similar to Joe90's set up. (355 TPI 400chp 500fwtq)
I have the ported plenum, as&m runners, accel base and 52mm Holley TB.
Now I have an 86 with Iron heads....but with a 1 piece seal.
So is it a pre-roller block? What does this mean...I can't do roller rockers?
What kind of heads can I buy? I need somthing that flows 220cfm at .500.
Basically I have never built an engine before (am having this one built) but I don't want to go in blind...and I am trying to buy all the parts myself....so please...any information relevent would be awesome.
TIA! :smash:

I think the roller blocks were `87 and later. In this case, the term refers to the cam and lifters, not the rockers. The `87 and later blocks, even those originally equipped with flat tappet cams, can use the OEM style roller lifters without any modification to the block. The earlier blocks need to use after-market "retro fit" rollers.

Ok So I just need to make sure to get retro fit rollers.

What about heads?
Like the heads that use centerbolts for the valve covers...can those go on this L98? Or would I need to find older ones?

I am just swamped in ?s...I know its confusing....thanks for all the help!

Your block should accept either early or late (centerbolt) heads. As to which heads would be best for you application, I recommend posting the question in the C4 section. A lot of the guys there have done what you're looking to do and will be happy to give you some tips. Be sure to give as much info about your car as you can (gearing, trans, intended use, etc.) so they'll know how to best advise you.
