sbc main bearing question
In GM specs they seem to specify a slightly tighter bearing clearance for the #1 from the #2-#3-#4. Performance builders never seem to make a difference. Anyone know why GM does it? I have always tightened #1 up a very small amount but I have done it because GM does and not with a real good reason. Anyone know the GM reason and the reason the HP builders don't?

i should have said the knock was caused by the engine accessories that loaded the front bearing so they tightened up the specs. :chevy
