I am tired of being shafted by mediocre "builders". Anyone know of a "reputable" shop in this area that knows SBC's (late model) and can get my vette running right?
Try Sonny's Racing in Lynchburg, VA. They specialize in big block Chevy engines (IHRA/NHRA), but are very competent with SBC. Another possiblity is Kowalski's (sp?) on Wards Road. I couldn't find Kowalski on an internet search, but they're also very good with SBC. Mr. Kowalski used to work for Sonny Leonard of Sonny's.
Steve, I am still fighting the tune and loose rocker arms. I am going to attempt to go on the Skyline cruise tomorrow. I am waiting for an interface for a DFI system. If that doesn't fix it, I will yank the engine and start over! Where have you been racing?
try Maryland Performance center in gathersburg md, they have a web site. the guy builds awsome motors!!!! and he will steer you in the right directioh as far as matching parts for performance. he is very proffesional and builds a lot of big dollar set ups. he is not cheap either... but he will not try and rip you off.

That's funny as hell. George has a poor rep at best based on my experience and others that have used him. He talks a good game and is quick with excuses when he melts engines. Unless you have deep pockets run away from that place.
I heard the same thing about George. I have talked with him a few times and didn't get a warm fuzzy. Tony's Corvette has just invested a lot of money in a dyno and accompanying systems. I asked him he was going to get into hipo stuff and he said he is being forced in that direction. He's about the only guy I trust around here.

I know first hand how bad he is with DFI. I tried him with my 420 and three stages of NOS and he could not even get it to idle. Made some bs about my 3" ehaust being too big. Just a real intellectual and when I pulled the car because he was over budget without any progress I found my new flexplate ringgear ground down by the started! Granted this was ten years ago, but may a person has ask me to tune their DFI after he was not able.
Well Blown Vette, I am having a DFI installed at a shop in Mt. Airy as we speak. I don't have total confidence that they will be able to tune it correctly. Would you be able to help? Also, since we are on the subject, they kinda acted funny when I told them I wanted the software installed on my laptop. they said I wouldn't be able to do much myself because they have the "pro-key". Is that BS?

I have had some first had experience with a builder in Manassas Va. His name is Carrol Carter of C&C machine. He built a big block motor for a friend of mine and I witnessed the dyno results, been in business for 30 years and a lot of experience. You dont stay in business that long not doing it right. Good luck , Steve
I had a great experience with Tidewater Corvettes in Newport News Virginia. I didn't have anything too major done (just an intake (base, runners, injectors& TB), and rear differential swap) but after speaking with Rob I felt comfortable leaving my baby with him. They have had customers ask for all sorts of things, and apparently they have done more than a few Vortec head conversions.
I will probably be rebuilding my engine in the winter (162K on the clock) and IF I pay somebody else to do it, it will be them.
