A few weeks ago I was on the way home from work, and for whatever reason, decided to give the throttle a work out.I got to around 3500-4000 and the enginge began to sputter and pop.I'd just filled up the gas tank that morning,so I figured I'd gotten a bad tank of gas.The 406 had been running strong to 6500 previously.
This has not been resolved yet, after some four tanks of gas later,so I decided to try a tuneup. New plugs wires cap and rotor. Timing checked out at the usual, but still I have this sputter at mid range. Today I pulled both valve covers and watched as it idled. Oil is getting to all the rockers,no notible valve problems.I pulled the front fuel bowl and blew out the power valve, also dropped the exhaust and ran it wide open, thinking maybe the catalytic converter may have become plugged. Still have the sputter.
I haven't checked the compression yet,but the low end and quick starting leads me to feel there's no problem there. My gut says the carb has a problem, but not being familiar with Holleys,I'm at a loss.Any suggestions?
