Has anyone had problems with the "extreme duty timing chain"? I had one istalled when I did my LT1/LT4 conversion and after sending my Vette to the shop to correct an oil leak (from the timing cover/oil pan area) the mechanic pulled the timing geat out and it showed quie a bit of wear. It had less that 8k miles on it. It is also quite a bit heavier that the stock unit. The mechanic recommended to install an LT4 timing gear and chain set up.

Are you having problems with the new timing set? Thats GMs answer for an upgrade from stock. If wear is abnormal take it back - at least you'll get an answer. Sounds more like that mech needs extra busieness (your $$$$). Maybe just cheaper to shop for an new mech than to pay for an upgrade to your upgrade.

I believe the LT4 timing chain setup is fairly expensive (if you cannot reuse the gears from your extreme setup). Have you thought about running an electric water pump from CSI or Meziere which would allow you to run a cheap, reliable true double roller from Coyles? I've ran that combo for about 2 years and 30k miles with zero problems from the electric water pump.
I think you should run from this mechanic. The extreme duty timing set IS the LT4 timing set. It was the upgrade for the higher RPM LT4 engine.
And yes, I have had some trouble with mine. I'm on the second one and it's making a bunch of noise. I'll be switching to an aftermarket double roller and an electric water pump it's ever replaced.

Actually, The gear set and chain were fine, the secondary teeth that turn the water pump gear is what was worn. So maybe my original water pump was going bad and wore down the teeth. I replaced everything, I went with the LT4 chain and a Meziere water pump. NOW my opti went out!!!! Will it ever end???
