Default 32 valve LS1/6?????????

Hi, im new here so please dont kill me straight away. anyway im looking to bulid a Ultima GTR for use on the road and track. these things normaly run SBCs but i wanted to run a LS1/6. after doing some reserch i came acrros these heads for the SBC and wondered if anyone has seen anythig for the LSX engines? would be nice to build a LSX that will rev to like 9K and with these heads im sure there would be loads of power over 16v heads.

any opinions ot thoughts would be great, even if they are not good. LOL

thanks again Chris.

PS. here is the link to the Ultima site. http://www.ultimasportscars.co.uk

and here the link to the 32v heads. http://www.araoengineering.com/Chevy/chevysmb.htm

The arao/ dominion heads are only available for the GenI SBC.

The question now is, WHY? There's no power increase over conventional components, if you put the extra money those heads cost into more common type heads (SB2 or even SB2.2 stuff) a lot more power may be available, the 32 valves are only for bragging rights IMO.

thanks Twin Turbo. i was just interested to see if there was anyone doing a similar thing. i have grown up in a mainly 4 valves per cylinder era, so you will have to pardon my ignorace for wondering if there is any way of doing it to the LS1/6.

on the performance side, i think there could be some gains to be had on high reving N/A units or high boosted engines! i do understand that the current heads have had an age of development behind them, and thats why they work so well, but as most new engines run 4 valves per cylinder (even alot of deisels) you can but wonder what an LS1/6 would be like with 32 vales.

maybe it would make more scnece if the engine in question was smaller, and thus higher reving.

anyway thanks again Chris.

Put an LT5 in it, now THAT would be awesome.

ok thanks for being so acomidating and replying to what must seem like a dum guy. im sorry but us brits dont see many engines that have more than 4 cylinders these days. LOL

anyway. i have found some info on the LT5 unit and am currently looking though it. the car i plan to run is an Ultima GTR (see link below). the thing is the chassis is quite small and was designed for a SBC. do you think an LT5 would fit into such small suroundings? are theuy much bigger then an LS1 or SBC? from what i can see these engines look amazing, so why are more people not using them?

any further info you could give me would be great.

thanks Chris.

PS. here is the link to the Ultima web site. im looking to build a GTR. http://www.ultimasportscars.co.uk/ what do you guys think?

This is off topic, but a guy over there has an Ultima with a 177 supercharged SBC. That would be alot cheaper than 32 valve heads and probably alot more exciting. But 32 valve would be cool too, especially if it was an LT5 motor.

I've always liked the Ultima cars, too bad we can't get a vehicle approval for them here, might be able if we got a SVA over there in the UK but what a PITA..and they aren't exactly cheap either

I wouldn't mind seeing some pics of your project.

You might be able to get 8K out of these motors, but I doubt you'll get to 9K. If you really want to try it, go to ls1tech.com and look up Colonel. He's out of Alabama, and has built a serious high-reving ls1.

I think the easiest way would be to build a solid bottom end, and it probably doesn't matter much which components you use. The top end will be more important. Get the lightest valves you can get, double springs, Jesel rockers, and titanium retainers. You'll also need a custom sheetmetal intake cuz there's no way the stock intake manifolds or even the lsx manifold will flow enough air. You might even check out the Kinsler intake that Katech uses on the C5R's. Hope you know you're looking at spending over $40K on this engine. I'd rather put a Magnacharger on it. This way you can still use the exhaust manifolds that have already been made, and you'll get close to 450 horsepower and torque to the ground from 2000-6000 rpms. Put good springs and rockers in there and you can probably rev up to 7000 rpm's. You can find tons of used engines in the $3K range, the Magnacharger for about $5k, and springs and rockers for another $1500. The only other things I'd do is add a ported LS6 oil pump, ARP rod bolts and a double roller chain. Everything else is external, but of those I recommend a Moroso Accusump. With as hard as an Ultima GTR can corner, you can easily have oil starvation, and the Accusump will feed oil into the engine during those occasions.

Have fun building that monster!

thanks for all the responce. its realy cool. it is a shame you guys cant get hold of these cars like we can (by the way only planning the project at the mo) as even though the out lay may seem high, these things will beat all but the quickest ON THE ROAD machines. and with the engines i see being built on here you would have some quick cars!

anyway, i was just looking at doing something a bit diffrent to all the others over here. they manly use american speed SBC units. i know the saying "if it's not broke don't fix it" applies, and they do produce engines to comply with SVA (ie no cats), but i still find myself saying "what if"!

looks as though the LS1/6 unit will be the wepon of choice then. will have to run forced induction of course. LOL. i am looking for around 600bhp and similar torque for normal driving, and then about 800bhp and 650lbs ft when i turn it up a bit. have to limit the turque coz of the 'box. should still be interesting in a car that weighs 2200-2400lbs!

any ideas on a engine package that would suport this sort of power? i have looked at the FI section but everyone seems to be going for stroke instead of bore. also any other engines that would be stronger (read more reliable) than the LSx at these levels?

thanks SOOO much Chris.

It's a tight fit in the engine bay. You should spend some time in the Ultima GTR forum to better understand some of the engine issues. Basically you can get either mufflers OR catsa and if you'd like, also a Magnacharger that sits on top of the engine. If you get turbo's, you're going to have to give double your budget to develop a system for the LSx, and add a lot more if you want to try to fit cats or mufflers on, although it probably won't happen anyway.

For the power levels you want, you'll save $50K if you have one of the better tuners build you a stroker that's from 427ci to 454ci. The better engine builders can deliver over 600 rwhp on pump gas. Have them do everything: AFR heads, double springs, ceramic coat everypart of the head (except the deck!), forged bottom end, studs, etc. Get your exhaust manifolds coated too. The engine will cost around $30K, but you'll still be saving tons of money over trying to fit blowers into an Ultima GTR. Coating the exhaust manifolds may help keep that engine from pounding your head a little, but it's still going to be extremely loud in the cockpit. Forget about a stereo....you're better off getting a decal that looks like a stereo cuz you'll never hear the thing anyway!

thanks Leaftye. got any links to people that are building these sort of engines? i do agree that N/A would be a lot easier than FI. but its just much harder to get the BIG numbers. i dont know. may have to wait for the "ligit" twin screw blower for the Vette. someone said it would diliver 800bhp! probaly just speculation though.

as for the turbo thing, it was always going to be an enginering nightmear. i have seen it done on Brammo/Spectrum 5's GTR but they did it with out exhaust system and it is costly (around $40K) and i was thinking if i did it myself it would be cheaper!

thanks anyway Chris.
