I was wondering if any body has ever put a cam from 65 327/375hp motor, into a 63 327/340hp. I have been trying to find specs on that cam and motor, but have'nt had any luck. Would welcome any knowledge for the above parts.
The 30/30 cam (also used in 365hp 327's and 302 Z28's) will fit any early SB. Lots of the guys in the C1/C2 section are running it and you could ask there for opinions. There have been several threads comparing it to the LT-1 cam and many find the latter to be a better performing cam for street use unless low gearing is used.
There is no such thing as "L-84 cam". Both L-84 and L-76 used the same cam for each model year; '62 and '63 used the "Duntov cam". The "30-30 cam" was used for '64-'65. It made a little more top end power than the Duntov cam, but just killed the low end torque.
When the LT-1 cam was released in 1970 it became the service replacement for the 30-30, which was discontinued. The LT-1 cam makes about the same low end torque as the L-79 cam and nearly the same top end power as the 30-30, and I recommend it as a replacement mechanical lifter cam for all SBs with 461 or later big port heads. The Duntov is still a decent replacement for mechanical lifter 283s with medium port heads, which would be all except the '61 283/315HP FI.
