I just really like the way it looks.

I don't understand why they are so uptight, manifolds are easy enough to change. I would try it & see how you like it. Good oppurtunity to learn a new skill: how to sync carbs. Who cares what they think anyway. I would really freak them out and install an old Delco points-type distributor.

I have your huckleberry Delco Point Distributor right HERE.
Would you like me to throw it up on eBay for you?

Bidding will start at 2 cents. I don't want to take advantage of anyone but you never know what these old point distribs. may be worth.

Just kidding.

It's your's. Try it like you like it. It may run great.

Hey, if that's what you want, go for it. Dual carbs are cool!

I havn't dynoed a medium rise 2x4 set-up like you have;but tunnel ram intakes are always worth 40-60 + HP & TQ over an open plenum single 4.

The key will be how well this intake distributes the fuel charge. My guess is you will be surprised how well it will work!

Normally; with 2 carbs , the vacuum signal to the boosters in the carb is weaker at wide open throttle ; which means you might need to jet - up 4 sizes or so. If the car feels flat at high rpm or cuts out ; jet it up first.

I ran a dual-4 setup on my 406" Ford in the 23T street rod for a while. Had to switch it to a single carb with a 850 DP for the CARB smog inspection (guy wouldn't believe me that Ford had a dual-4 setup, and the docs from Ford didn't arrive until about a month after the inspection date). The single carb setup definately ran better than the duals. If you go dual I would try a pair of 390 cfm Holleys, as even on the big block the 600's were too much.

I do agree they look neat. I just could never get mine to work as well as the single carb, so never put it back after the inspection was over.

As I said before, no doubt a Victor intake and a Dominator will make more power...but all that said.......on a 540 there is easily a 30 hp swing between an Old Team G and a Super Victor at high rpm. But there are some fast guys out there with Team G's.theyjust have car setup to like it's characteristics.

Unless you turn major rpm, that intake will be pretty decent into the 5000-5500 range...it will pul hard past that, but that's when airflow will be critical.

The setup you have has been run before....he mentioned the 2x4's on a 427 Ford.....ever see an original Thunderbolt run with only 427" and a flat tappet cam? They did alright.

The 660's will take some work to "streetify" but it can be done. Some 750's DP's would be nice. In the picture you can see the linkage whre I suggested modifying it before to help street stuff.

I'd work on the plenum area as much as possible to help the mixture make the turn into the runners. That intake has tall plenums, so you have room to play with. I would also spend time opening ports to match heads as far into ports as possible.

If you really like the way it looks ( I do too) I think you should do it and do whatever necessary to show them your tailights!

Worse comes to worse, you gt a single plane to play with later...but hey you'll have the cool factor and that's worth something!

And remember...unless you're talking 25hp or so, it's hard to tell with the buttometer..it takes clocks to measure changes that small on a big motor.

I agree with 427HotRod ; except leave the intake runners alone. You want as much port velocity in the intake to keep the fuel suspended at lower rpm.

Go for it ; no matter what!
