2000 Firebird Won't Start
Posted Tues Aug 03 2010
V6 Engine - All Stock.
Battery fully charged....cables tight.
Lights do not dim when ignition key turned.
I hear fuel pumps (or engine noises engage) when key turned.
All other functions (AC, Horn, Interior Lights Radio) are functioning.
Just like no power to the starter.
I only have an owners manual and the one fuse (large square fuse) that says starter appears OK.
Any leads before I have it towed?

Is the VATS ignition key correct for the car?

Thanks...yes that was a thought.
We tried the second key thinking the pellet may be flawed.
Still no start.
Towing to dealer as based on research and symptoms I am guessing it is the secury system.
Seems these cars have an issue with a broken wire inside the steering column.
If wire not repaired, new ignition cylinder assembly is installed.
Could be something else though.

Yes, broken wire from ignition key asy to harness, in the sterring column.
New ignition cylinder (comes with wires that plug into harness), two new pelleted keys.
All fixed...first time this car actually stranded us - we're original owners.
Marin County Calif labor rates - diagnosis then parts and labor @$550.
