New Camaro ZL1 Convertible
GM Inside News Forum is detailing the release of the new CONVERTIBLE ZL1
Final insult to the Corvette, 580 HP in Convertible Camaro versus 436 in Corvette Obviously GM is either planning a major price and feature increase for the Corvette C7 or they are trying to strangle it out of existence so they do not have to bother with it.

It's still ugly, overweight, slow and they just slapped on a supercharger to make bigger numbers...
IMO of course.

To me these camaro's are very ugly cars. To each his own though.
3900lbs.. Empty. OVER 4000lbs with a driver.......... HUGE!
Anyone know the drag coefficient?
Mod for mod these will lose in the 1/4 mile vs it's counterparts at ford... Not sure on track time comparisons yet though.. Don't think the boss has run Nurb track and dont think the zl1 has run where the boss has..
I am willing to bet price will be near ~55k, then you could add in "mark up" prices and who knows what else. So add overpriced to my list above.
I don't really want to get into an argument about all this that is why I left my disclaimer IMO!!!

The ZL1 has already bested the first Z06 "ring" time. How's that for slow?

Amazing how GM comes out with a pretty impressive Camaro and many Corvette owners on this forum rush to trash it.

Hope GM does build it. I would love one but if i had a choice i'd rather have a Corvette. I'd be " The Camaro is Fun but its not a Corvette " I'll just keep the old Corvette

I don't take Nurb numbers to serious.. A 7+ minute track will have too much human error involved..
+ don't compare a 2007 lap time when Nurb wasn't even Chevy's concern.. If you want to compare do apples to apples '12 vs '12. Neither were perfect runs and both done around the same time with a goal of setting new standards in mind.
7:22.68 Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06 (2012) Jim Mero
7:41.27 Camaro ZL1 (2012) Aaron Link
Perfect comparison on why I don't like Nurb times.. Look what a driver difference can do... 15 seconds in a race like this is a very big gap..
7:26.4 Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1 (2009) Jim Mero
7:41.5 Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1 (2009) Sascha Bert
Then his own time bested by another 7 seconds
7:19.6 Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1 (2012) Jim Mero

Most of us Corvette guys are smart enough to know the difference!

And you're entitled to your opinions. Ugly is subjective. Heavy? Sure, in comparison.
But you can't opine about facts. The car is not slow. Period. Those who are saying so are contradicting themselves. For it to be outrunning (or even running in the same ballpark) as a 3100lb Z06 yet be nearly a thousand pounds heavier and cost $20k less, there's simply no leg to stand on to call it slow. What it's doing with what it's got is nothing short of flying.
Slow. Okay.
