In NY state we had the ugly yellow plates when I first registered my 79 Z28 in Sept 1979, next they updated with the white/ red plates which I liked on my white Z28 with red stripes. Then they went to the white with blue, so OK still not bad. Now they went back to the yellow with blue. Funny thing happened and I saw that you can get an old vintage set of plates like the ones your car had when new and for $3.75 NY will let you register and use them on your 25+ year old vehicle.
So, I went out and bought a set of the original ugly yellow plates LOL

No, unfortunately I didn't save them when new plates were issued. I found these locally on Craig's List. You then contact NYS Vintage/ historical plates and they let you know if they are clear to use.
