The power window harness gets its power feed from the "Acc Fused" cavity in the fuse block, so they'll only work with the key in the "Accessory" or "On" position if they're connected properly.

Thanks John .... since my 65's Power Windows work without the key, I figure that something must be wrong (for over 20 years now .... ever since I've had it).

I took a look at the fuse panel on my 65 and there is one wire from the window harness connected to one of two fuse cavities labeled "Power Windows" located at the bottom of the fuse block. There is also the word "Bat" labeled just to the left of the left cavity where my PW harness wire connects. I don't see any cavities labeled "Acc Fused" but there are two cavities labeled "Acc Lamps" with internal metal blades but nothing connected to them. There are no other wires connecting to any of the other cavities of the fuse panel.

I get 12v with the ignition "off" from both PW cavities and no volts from the "Acc Lamps" cavities in any ingition position (like they are dead).

Does this mean that my fuse block may have been incorrectly connected to the main firewall harness some 20+ years ago when I had all the harnesses replaced? Any easy fix for this? However, I actually prefer the windows operation just the way they are but I've always been curious about this.

It also begs the question about my headlamp motors and power antenna .... they also both work with the ingition off?

Thanks again for your help

The headlamp motors and power antenna are fed directly from the battery, and have 12V all the time, regardless of key position. The "power windows" cavities should show 12V only with the key in the "Accessory" or "On" position; could be a wiring error in the replacement fuse block. I'd probably leave it alone.
