I just bought a Carb rebuild kit for my 66 L79. According to all the documentaion I can find, it should be a 4160 holley. However non of the parts or gaskets fit. I recorded the number and found my carb on this site. http://www.tocmp.com/manuals/Carbs/H...t/index23.html
According to this it is off a 65-67 chevrolet, chevelle and listed as a 4160 C. So why didn't the carb rebuild kit from Corvette central fit? And is it possible that the factory took a carb of a 396 and fit it at the factory or do I have the wrong carb? It is an early 66. If I do have the wrong carb is it correct to buy a new one or keep the old one? I want to stay factory, or as close as possible. My numbers look like this:

Your carb should be a 3367 unless it is a California car with K19 (smog pump). They began producing these carbs in July of 1965, so the earliest example I've seen is 571 (1965, July, first week). They would not install a 396 carb on your 350 horse from the factory, GM would do some swaping of parts, but not a major item like this.
How early is your car, I have '66 #1649.
A Holley 3140 dated 4th week, May 1965 come on a 1965 Chevy Full-size (Impala) 396/325 hp car. They used these because of supply problems at the Q-jet factory. It looks identical to the Corvette Holley 3367 and uses the same rebuild kit. If the gaskets do not fit it is probably the wrong kit or someone has messed with the carb. If the carb is not damaged and rebuilt it should run OK on your 327/350 hp.
