Default Smog system re-install question

Okay guys, I have just about gathered up all the necessary components to re-install my 68 small block smog system. I am going to make it an appearance only installation. One question is what is the best way to plug the air holes at the exhaust manifold and still be able to screw in my air injector tubes?

Remove the SS tubes and replace with #10 x 1/2" flat head machine screws, then install the air manifold tubes. The flat head screws will seal off the holes and keep hot exhaust gases out of the air tubes, and will allow the tube nuts on the air manifolds to screw in to exactly the same depth as they did with the SS tubes in place.

Or you could send the smog pump to Jerry MacNeish (www.z28camaro.com) and let him rebuild your smog pump non functional. Therefore, everything bolts up where it should but the smog is strictly appearance.
