im starting a frame off on my 72 rag ,4spd ,ontario orange on tan,
and want opinions on if i should paint the frame base clear or powder coat.
im not out to make it a bloomington gold car,but as nice as i can afford without going overboard(at least thats what i tell the wife)
im keeping it the original colour, but the paint will be base/clear.
any input would be great.
thanks ,Adam
I'd powder-coat it - much more durable finish for a frame than just paint; the powder-coater can give you any gloss you want.
Last weekend I was down at a friends shop. They are doing a frame- off restoration on a 69 Fire-bird. The owner decided to powder-coat the frame. It looked Great! If your not going NCRS, or Bloomington, I'd powder-coat.
I just did the frame for my '62 with powdercoating. It's more durable and easier to clean. I had it blasted first then semi-gloss black. Cost me $500. By the time you prep, prime, paint, etc, I think the powdercoating will be cheaper. Many areas of the country you could get it done for less than $500. I'm in a high price area/
