What does the wiper relay do? Is it needed? What color wires go to it?

Thanks Tom

Not sure, but I think it ensures that the wiper door doesn't close until the wipers have parked when you turn them off.

According to the wiring diagram in the AIM, there are 5 wires at the W/S/W Door Relay.
I'll try and show how they were connected below.

18B 18B/W
18LG
18Y 18LBL

18B represents 18 gauge Black wire
18B/W " " 18 gauge Black and White
18LG " " 18 gauge Light Green
18Y " " 18 gauge Yellow
18LBL " " 18 gauge Light Blue

Steve,

Thanks for the info, the only plug in that I have with the Y and the LBL is 2 of each color per side, does that sound possible?

Hi Tom. I dug out my old "826" relay, which I replaced a year or so ago. It has 5 prongs on the back....one "set" is designed for a 3 prong connector, the other for a 2 prong connector. The current replacement relay is Group 9.227 part number 3989214 It has the same "3 prong, 2 prong" system on the back. I don't remember wire colors, etc. As I recall, I removed my old...put in the new, and plugged in both connectors. Hope this helps. Chuck
